Link to BlueSky post is broken, but the claim still stands. Fox News had published a post featuring the headline "Fox News is told a Border Patrol employee shot an armed person in Minneapolis on Saturday and CPR is being performed. City officials said they are aware of the report and working to confirm details." At the time, details were scattered and difficult to piece together. However, this New York Times article features an in-depth timeline of the minutes leading up to the event. The timeline claims that an ICE officer had removed the holstered weapon from the scuffle just seconds before Alex Petti was executed. The way that Fox News had worded their post provided little context and one could piece together that an active threat was shot. Not someone who had a legally registered firearm on their person. The New York Times article disproves the notion that Alex was an active threat. Also, the Department of Homeland Security has published that "The suspect also had 2 magazines and no ID—this looks like a situation where an individual wanted to do maximum damage and massacre law enforcement." There is no evidence provided to say that Alex was without ID at the time, besides the department's claim. But the claim that he was armed and approaching officers with malicious intent is completely bogus. In numerous eye witness video, Alex was seen videotaping the scene; not one moment showed any signs he was armed before the scuffle.  This being said, Fox News is making a very bold claim in sticking to their initial post claiming that he was armed despite video evidence disproving the agency's and the Department of Homeland Security's claim.

You're saying that the photo of the gun owned by the allegedly armed man executed by ICE is fake and Fox news is airing it, which is something I also believe as there are AI images of Alex Pretti that have gone around online, but I dont see any verified evidence of FOX News using or airing the fake gun photo. What IS confirmed is that FOX commentaros repeated a whole bunch of claims saying that Pretti did pull out a gun even though there are a bunch of video evidence that contradicts that statement.

For my first source I checked out PolitiFact, as they analyzed the AI image showing Pretti holding a gun and they confirmed it was AI through Google Gemini, another generative website. They point out clear distortions such as a headless officer, which is key to finding out of the image is AI.

My 2nd source that I'd like to bring up is NBC news reporting on the AI content. They documented how AI photos and videos of the shootings confuses a lot of people, which starts to spread like a wildfire and may fuel people with specific political beliefs.

In general, there is a bunch of evidence showing that AI does make a huge difference in how these situations get interpreted online. It definitely fuels a lot of people with political beliefs and causes much more anger which is not good. What we can confirm fully with all the sources is that most of the spread rumors is due to an AI altered image. So to wrap this up, the claim isn't completely wrong, but it's not fully backed up either as it is more of a mix of AI misinformation and talks about FOX that haven't really been confirmed, the only one I've seen was another station named "MS NOW".

The post claims that a photo of a gun, supposedly owned by the man shot by federal agents, is fake. It also claims that Fox News presented this image as if it were genuine. This claim came from a social media post on BlueSky by a political commentator. Social media posts often lack editorial review and reflect personal views rather than verified facts. The post offers no sources, or original documents to back up its claim that the image is fake, which weakens its credibility. Independent reporting from reputable outlets like Reuters and PolitiFact has shown that AI-generated and altered images have spread widely online after recent ICE-related shootings. This includes fake or modified images that feature weapons and agents. These news organizations use official records, video evidence, and expert insights instead of unverified social media posts. There is no verified proof that the specific image mentioned in the post came from law enforcement or was verified before being shared online. The claim that the photo is fake seems reasonable given the known spread of AI-generated images. However, the post does not provide enough evidence to prove that Fox News intentionally aired a false image. This claim is best viewed as misleading due to its lack of verified sources and incomplete context.
