You're saying that the photo of the gun owned by the allegedly armed man executed by ICE is fake and Fox news is airing it, which is something I also believe as there are AI images of Alex Pretti that have gone around online, but I dont see any verified evidence of FOX News using or airing the fake gun photo. What IS confirmed is that FOX commentaros repeated a whole bunch of claims saying that Pretti did pull out a gun even though there are a bunch of video evidence that contradicts that statement.
For my first source I checked out PolitiFact, as they analyzed the AI image showing Pretti holding a gun and they confirmed it was AI through Google Gemini, another generative website. They point out clear distortions such as a headless officer, which is key to finding out of the image is AI.
My 2nd source that I'd like to bring up is NBC news reporting on the AI content. They documented how AI photos and videos of the shootings confuses a lot of people, which starts to spread like a wildfire and may fuel people with specific political beliefs.
In general, there is a bunch of evidence showing that AI does make a huge difference in how these situations get interpreted online. It definitely fuels a lot of people with political beliefs and causes much more anger which is not good. What we can confirm fully with all the sources is that most of the spread rumors is due to an AI altered image. So to wrap this up, the claim isn't completely wrong, but it's not fully backed up either as it is more of a mix of AI misinformation and talks about FOX that haven't really been confirmed, the only one I've seen was another station named "MS NOW".
