Because of the Democrat shutdown, there are not enough funds to provide SNAP for 40 million Americans come Nov 1.

Democrats are putting free healthcare for illegal aliens and their political agenda ahead of food security for American families.

Shameful.

From the sources I gathered, this claim only holds true in the fact that the government is indeed shutdown.  However, the original source comes directly from a X (formally know as Twitter) in which it states the same information.  However, the source seems highly biased and pins the blame solely on the Democratic party.  From the sources I found, there is no evidence to suggest that the government shutdown is solely to blame on the Democratic party.   In fact there is more evidence to pin blame on the Republican party.  For example, CBS reported that "the White House referred CBS News to the USDA, which then shared the letter it sent to states. Both declined to comment on what a lapse in funding could mean for the millions of Americans who rely on the program. Advocates, meanwhile, have warned the effects could be devastating."  Also, the statement above showcases an agenda to shift the blame and focus onto the immigrant situation instead of the pressing food crisis affecting millions of Americans.

All the sources I collected did confirm the main point about 40 million Americans being affected, however none of them pinned the blame on the Democratic party, instead choosing to leave blame out of it entirely.  Which helps these sources seem less focused on biased opinion and more focused on stating the facts.  As a result, I must conclude that while this does have some confirmed facts, the post in its entirety is biased and misleading.  Choosing to spread hate by shifting the blame & focus onto another topic entirely, one that isn't relevant to the main point its trying to make.  Other than to point fingers.

After both Dems and Reps couldn't agree on a funding plan leading to the shutdown on Oct. 1, the USDA sent letters on Oct. 10 to state agencies, telling them not to send certain files to the contractors that would allow EBT cards to be loaded at the start of November. But different states send that information at different points in the month. It is currently unclear what will happen with SNAP, but regardless of the shutdown, SNAP funds can still be distributed.

"Carolyn Vega, the associate director of policy analysis at Share Our Strength, an anti-poverty advocacy group, said that pausing sending the information now doesn’t mean that cards can’t be loaded next month, with or without resumption of government operations. But it’s not good news, either. “The question marks are trending in a bad direction for November,” she said." - APNews, 10/16/2025

The USDA has a "Lapse of Funding" plan, with money for the SNAP program that could be used to cover state administrative expenses during a federal government shutdown. Multiyear contingency funds are also available for times like this, when a lapse of funding occurs in the middle of the fiscal year.

"However, it's unclear if the USDA plans to utilize those funds to ensure November SNAP benefits. The agency did not respond to CBS News' request for comment on whether that option is under consideration." CBS News, 10/20/2025

While this claim is true that the SNAP program is at risk due to the government shutdown, the framing of this claim is heavily targeted and implies guilt that isn't exactly correct. According to this article by the BBC, the government shutdown is a result of a disagreement over budget allocation between the two parties. The Democrats feel strongly that budget cuts to the healthcare system are unacceptable and they are holding out for a compromise that allows for the healthcare system to remain intact. While this claim states that this shutdown serves the Democratic political agenda, it seems as though Trump has more to benefit from the shutdown than the democrats. The day before the shutdown he is reported as saying, "we'll be laying off a lot of people." Seeing as one of the first actions he did as president was to instate the "Department of Governmental Efficiency" it seems as though he will be using this as an opportunity to fire more people and advance his agenda. Its clear that some news outlets are pointing the finger directly at Trump although this is a dispute at the senate level. MSNBC's article "How Trump is exploiting the looming food stamps crisis" is accompanied by an embedded video with the headline, "Trump's shutdown to bring increasing pain to Americans." While this could definitely be misleading because the responsibility falls on both parties to reach a compromise, in the end the president is supposed to ensure that his government remains functional and can serve the people. This article from MSNBC claims that Republicans are relying on the food stamp concerns to put pressure on the Democrats to drop their stipulations on healthcare reform in order to end the government shutdown. While the claim is correct that the Democrats are involved, and that SNAP is being put in jeopardy, it frames the Democrats as having something to gain from the government shutdown when according to my research the opposite appears to be true.

I love how you brought attention to how critical progams like SNAP are also being affected during the shut down had occurred. I also love how you used direct quotes by Donald trump to help add more evidence to back up your claim.

This post uses misleading words

It is true that new SNAP benefits will not be issued if the shutdown continues into November. All sources I've found mentioning SNAP note that approximately 41 million Americans benefit from it. The shutdown is due to a disagreement on renewing benefits that make health insurance cheaper and Trump's cutting of Medicaid. However, the post claims that this is in support of undocumented immigrants, who cannot receive ADA benefits in the United States. Only immigrants of a certain status with paperwork can receive public benefits, including cheaper healthcare. Additionally, many sources are choosing not to place blame on either party for the shutdown.

These harsh claims, while backed by some fact, are misconstruing the reality of the situation and falsely forcing blame onto immigrants, which may encourage hate towards them.

Firstly, Bluesky is a social media platform known for its distinct conservative bias. This claim, for that reason, no longer holds any validity. Next, looking at the statement that this is a "Democrat" shutdown. Both sides play an equal role in this shutdown, from a non-biased standpoint, it can be observed that the shutdown is due to a disagreement on renewing benefits that make health insurance cheaper and Trump's cutting of Medicaid. Both sides play a role in this shutdown, and placing blame on a singular party is unjust. Furthermore, according to all reputable sources Trump is unwilling to meet with democrats until the government reopens. This is further evidence as to why this shutdown is not purely the fault of the democrats. If our president is unable to come to an agreement, then he too plays a role.

Taking a deeper look at this article, it holds some truth, but for the most part, it is misleading and is spreading the wrong reasons. The part that holds is the USDA warned states about potential delays in SNAP; however, contingency funds may still allow benefits to be distributed, and no definitive cutoff has been confirmed. The claim that immigrants are “free healthcare for illegal aliens” is completely misleading majority of undocumented immigrants aren't even allowed to apply for health care. States warn SNAP benefits may stop in November if government shutdown continues - CBS News.

NBC even goes into the dive SNAP benefits, which also makes it known that both parties, not just Democrats, failed to agree on funding, and the blame is not one-sided. This concept that the left is trying to take away the benefits of the right is completely biased and is just using emotional language to construct their idea, and it only makes the article's validity of the article go down because they substitute the problems at hand with blame to the other party.

The headline for this post seemed highly biased towards the Democratic Party and blames them completely for the government shutdown. One given fact that is linked to this headline is that the government shutdown did happen and its what’s going on right now. Another given is that the SNAP program is heavily at risk because of the government shutdown for the month of November. Because this topic is a huge conflict going on with our country many news outlets have wrote an article about like NPR and USA Today to name a few. According to NPR, The Trump Administration warned the USDA ahead of time that the money that drives that program will run out by November 1st, this is if the shutdown continues. The USDA did send out a letter to state agencies as well, dated on October 10th. In USA Today's article, SNAP development director Sasha Gersten-Paal says there will be insufficient funds for November’s SNAP benefits for approximately 42 million people across the nation. In this article it also states that this shutdown is the second longest shutdown ever currently. After looking at both articles overall, it seems like both political parties couldn’t come to an agreement on budget allocation and that’s what caused this hold. Both parties are currently not making any moves forward and are pointing fingers at each other. This headline is misleading and over exaggerating.

While this claim comes from the official Dept. of Agriculture Bluesky account, it is almost entirely false. Calling the current government shutdown a “democrat shutdown” implies that democrats are solely responsible for the recent government shutdown. 3/5ths of the Senate is required to vote in favor of federal funding guidelines. There are 53 Republicans in the Senate, meaning Republicans need 7 more votes to pass their proposed budget solution. It is true that Democrats don’t want to vote on a budget bill until their demands are discussed. So, what do Democrats want? Politico summarizes their wishes nicely:  “The Democrats’ bill would extend boosted Affordable Care Act insurance subsidies that will otherwise expire on Dec. 31. It also would reverse cuts to Medicaid and other health programs that Republicans enacted as part of their party-line megabill this summer.” One could argue this means that Republicans are also responsible for the shutdown, since they don’t wish to discuss the issue of the Affordable Care Act. As CBS says, “Republicans have been steadfast in their belief that health care and other issues should be negotiated outside the context of funding the government.” It is important to note that ArtI.S8.C1.2.1 of the Constitution makes it clear that any spending from the federal government should only be done with authority from Congress. This would include health care. While one could argue for or against either side, attributing the shutdown to one party is not factual. Additionally, The Affordable Care Act subsidies referred to here only relates to low income citizens, not illegal immigrants.

From the social media site X, previously known as Twitter, the offical account of the United States Department of Agriculture posted the information above. With no sources cited or information linked, more research was needed to see if these accusations were true. From an article by the Harvard Kennedy School, it explained that on October 1st, 2025, the governemnt offically shut down because both Republican and Democratic funding bills did not recieve enough votes in the Senate to be passed. According to the article, a shutdown, in this sense, closes nonessential agencies, "furlough[s]" certain government workers, and cost taxpayers money. What does this mean for the Supplemetal Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits and food stamps you may be asking? Well according to the Food Research & Action Center, if this shutdown is not temporarily or permanently resolved by November 1st, SNAP will not recieve the funding it needs in order to disburse food stamps and Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) to the people and families that rely on it. Worst case, this process could just be delayed or inturrupted for the entire month of November. The next claim made in this post was that, "Democrats are putting free healthcare for illegal aliens and their political agenda ahead of food security for American families". In order to fact check this, it is important to see what the politcial climate is for this specific shutdown specifically. Calling the shutdown a strictly Democratic lead action is misleading and puts the blame on the Democratic party. The Republican party actually has the majority of seats in the House of Representatives and the Senate on top of the current president having a Republican political affiliation. Because of this, and the fact that shutdown is occuring because of the lack of votes to pass a bill in the Senate, it is more of a bipartisan issue that needs to be resolved. The other misleading point in this phrase is that the Democratic party is prioritizing free healthcare for illegal aliens over wanting to restore SNAP benefits, which is also misleading and untrue. An article by the Rockefeller Institute of Government explains the motives behind the Democratic party. In simple terms, the Democratic minority in the Senate is first wanting restorations on the the health care cuts that recently passed in the HR1 Bill (One Big Beautiful Bill Act) as well as a perment extension of funding that was not included in the HR1 for advance premium tax credits (APTC). APTCs are responsible for providing federal funding to the Affordable Care Act (ACA) marketplaces in order to lower the cost of health insurance coverage purchased through it. So overall, while some of the facts provided were true, most of the post was misleading and mist likely made to cause politcal division on the issue.

The claim that a Democrat led shutdown will halt SNAP benefits for 40 million Americans by November 1 has some truth, but it is misleading. Primary evidence from the USDA and official state memos confirms that SNAP funding could lapse if Congress does not act, with several states warning of potential benefit delays. Secondary sources like Reuters and The Washington Post report similar findings but stress that funding issues stem from the broader budget impasse, not one political party alone. The added claim that Democrats prioritized “free healthcare for illegal aliens” is unsubstantiated and politically biased, as no verified evidence supports it. Analyses from policy groups such as the CBPP suggest SNAP contingency funds may keep benefits running.
