Well, the US started the Ukrainian war (2.5 million Ukrainian and Russian men died, completely needlessly) under Biden. Gaza happened, and turned into genocide, under Biden ("Genocide Joe"). Things are not so simple.

The accusation of a genocide in Gaza is completely false. According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, the definition of Genocide is "the deliberate and systematic destruction of a racial, political, or cultural group". There is no policy of the Israeli government to destroy the Palestinian people and the actions on the ground support that. There are many different reports of the casualty figures being thrown around. The Gaza Health Ministry is an organization ran by Hamas that accounts for medical field in Gaza. They are run by Hamas, a which is a designated by the western world as a terrorist organization. I do not necessarily believe all the time, because after all they are ran by a terrorist organization, but the Israeli government did agree with them on this specific finding. According to their sources from October 7th, 2025, around 67,173 Gazans have been killed since October 7th, 2023. 31,754 (47%) of those killed were men aged between 18-59, which is the age of most of Hamas terrorists. I am not saying that every single one of those men was a Hamas terrorist, but a large majority of them are. After all, there is wide spread documentation of Hamas terrorists wearing civilian clothing, even in Hamas propaganda videos the fighters are shown wearing civilian clothing. That means that the ratio of militant-to-civilian death is around 1 militant to around 2 civilians. There is no genocide in Gaza.

1. Write a brief overall summary of your findings.

After fact-checking the claim that Joe Biden is responsible for both the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the Israel–Hamas war, I found that the claim is misleading and not supported by evidence. The available information shows that these conflicts were started by other actors, Russia in Ukraine and Hamas in Israel, rather than by Biden.

2. What primary sources did you find (e.g., transcripts, videos of politician speeches, tweets from public figures, scientific studies)? For each source, write at least one or two sentences explaining what you learned. Include all links.

  • United Nations (Ukraine War Overview)

https://unric.org/en/the-un-and-the-war-in-ukraine-key-information/
This source explains that Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. It confirms that the decision to start the war came directly from the Russian government under Vladimir Putin.

  • United Nations Report on October 7 Attacks

https://www.un.org/unispal/document/coi-attacks-7october2023-report-10jun24/
This report shows that the Israel–Hamas war began with attacks carried out by Hamas and other Palestinian armed groups on October 7, 2023. It identifies the groups responsible for initiating the conflict.

3. What secondary sources did you find (e.g., newspapers, magazines)? Only use secondary sources if sufficient primary sources are not available. For each source, write at least one or two sentences explaining what you learned. Include all links.

Reuters (Putin Orders Military Operation)
https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/russias-putin-authorises-military-operations-donbass-domestic-media-2022-02-24/
Reuters reports that Vladimir Putin authorized the invasion of Ukraine. This supports the idea that Russia made the decision to start the war.

4. What potential biases or interests might each of your sources have?

The United Nations aims to provide factual, international reporting, but it may reflect a global institutional perspective focused on peace and accountability.

Reuters is generally considered reliable and neutral, however, it depends on sources such as government officials and reports.

Any source claiming Biden is responsible may have political bias, especially if it comes from opinion-based platforms.

5. What evidence supports the claim you are fact-checking?

There is no strong direct evidence showing that Joe Biden caused either war. Some people argue that U.S. foreign policy decisions may have influenced global tensions, but this is opinion-based and does not prove direct responsibility.
6. What evidence undermines the claim you are fact-checking?

The invasion of Ukraine was initiated by Russia, led by Vladimir Putin.

The Israel–Hamas war began with the October 7 attack by Hamas.

These events were direct actions by those groups, not by Joe Biden or the U.S. government.

7. What happened when you tried contacting the person or group who made the original claim? (Always try to contact them—it’s okay if you don’t get a reply. For example, if the claim is that the president said something, try reaching out to the administration. If it was a Bluesky user, message that user on Bluesky.)

I was not able to contact the person who made the original claim.

FALSE / MISLEADING

This post contains three main claims to examine: that the United States started the Ukraine war, that 2.5 million people died in the war, and that Gaza became an instance of genocide, all under the administration of Biden.

Regarding the first of these claims, the United States did not start the war in Ukraine. Russia did. President Vladimir Putin of Russia started the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. While there have been analyses within the past that suggest that the expansion of NATO into Eastern Europe may have been one of the contributing factors to the war between Russia and Ukraine, the fact that an individual is a contributing factor to a war is not the same as starting the war. Additionally, former President Biden did not start a war, did not deploy troops from the United States into Ukraine or Gaza, or do anything of a similar nature to initiate violence from United States forces.

Regarding the second of these claims, the assertion of the 2.5 million deaths in Ukraine is significantly inflated. Instead, according to CSIS, Russia lost between 275,000 and 325,000 deaths in its war with Ukraine, while Ukraine lost between 100,000 and 140,000 individuals in the war. These figures only amount to between 375,000 and 465,000 total deaths in the war between Ukraine and Russia, which is significantly less than the 2.5 million that was claimed by the false post.

Finally, the debate regarding whether or not the situation in Gaza was that of genocide has yet to be settled by international courts and tribunals. There is no definitive answer regarding the status of Gaza as a site of genocide, thus making the misinformation within this statement another of the falsehoods published in this post.

Overall, this post is clearly deceptive, as each of the facts regarding the individuals who started the war, the number of individuals who died in the war, and the legal status of Gaza as a site of genocide is either incorrect or significantly more complex than the post suggests.

1. Write a brief overall summary of your findings.

This claim is mostly false or highly misleading. The death toll is exaggerated, and the who takes claim for responsibility of these conflicts are complex and come from before Biden's presidency. This reflects an anti-Western, pro-neutrality perspective.
2. What primary sources did you find (e.g., transcripts, videos of politician speeches, tweets from public figures, scientific studies)? For each source, write at least one or two sentences explaining what you learned. Include all links.

https://responsiblestatecraft.org/russia-ukraine-nato-expansion/ - Putin says NATO enlargement is Russia's justification for invasion.

https://www.atlanticcouncil.org/blogs/ukrainealert/russias-invasion-of-ukraine-was-never-about-nato/ - NATO's charter states membership is voluntary and open to any European nation who qualifies; no country has ever been forced to join

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casualties_of_the_Russo-Ukrainian_war - (maybe a bad source) Ukranian deaths are at around 57,000 killed and 250,000 wounded as of late 2024. "2.5 million" isn't backed by any credible source.
3. What secondary sources did you find (e.g., newspapers, magazines)? Only use secondary sources if sufficient primary sources are not available. For each source, write at least one or two sentences explaining what you learned. Include all links.

https://www.atlanticcouncil.org/blogs/new-atlanticist/the-real-reason-russia-invaded-ukraine - Analysts note that the West bears some responsibility for failing to back the new security architecture, rather than for provoking Russia.
4. What potential biases or interests might each of your sources have?

https://bsky.app/profile/aleksandarfatic.bsky.social/post/3mjc4shuqtk2p (original source) - The author is a Serbian philosophy professor at the University of Belgrade's Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory. Serbia has historically close ties to Russia, hasn't joined NATO, and didn't sanction Russia over Ukraine. Could give ideological motivation to minimize Russia and fault the West

The claim that Joe Biden started both the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the Israel–Hamas war is too strong, even though his policies are heavily criticized. One expert on Ukraine writes that “Putin’s choice to invade Ukraine in 2022 was entirely his own" and that “he did not invade because of Biden’s actions.” Others note that while broader U.S. policy helped shape the strategic environment over decades, “the decision to start this war was Putin’s.”

When talking about the Middle East, analysts say, "The war between Israel and Hamas did not begin in 2023" and that it is rooted in “long‑running issues of occupation and settlement expansion.” Some critics argue that Biden’s support “may make the United States complicit in Israeli war conduct,” but they still describe this as a question of how the U.S. handles the war, not of Biden causing it. As one source notes, “if Biden is responsible for the war in Gaza, he is also responsible for the war in Ukraine,” which shows how the claim stretches meaning beyond what most evidence supports.
