This claim is definitely opinionated and gives only brief information about what happened to Sonya Massey. However, it is correct in that former Deputy Sean Grayson killed Sonya Massey with three shots in her Illinois home on July 6, 2024. According to ABC News, Sonya's mother had called 911 earlier in the day to report that Sonya had been having a mental health episode. The two officers, including Grayson, went to do a wellness check on her in her home on July 6. Civil rights attorney Ben Crump, representing Sonya's family, also confirmed that Sonya had been clearly experiencing a mental health crisis.
Several news sources corroborate the same story (including the linked CNN article, the AP, and the aforementioned ABC article): that Grayson and another officer entered Sonya's house on July 6. Sonya had called 911, believing someone had been trying to break into her home. She began messing with a boiling pot of water, calmly saying she rebuked the officers "in the name of Jesus." I was able to find a repost of the original body cam footage, and it clearly shows Sonya was simply holding the pot before Grayson said he was going to shoot her in the face. In the CNN article, the other officer who responded to Sonya's 911 call, Deputy Dawson Farley, testified that Sonya did nothing that posed her as a threat.
Many discussions online show that many people feel outraged at the circumstances of Sonya's murder, as did the original claim. It's clear that many similar posts are of people who feel upset about her death. Most news outlets I came across did a good job of presenting the facts of the case and allowing others to form their own opinions.
