As of writing, the latest update was given at 8:20 PM EST by Amazon themselves in this article. Essentially, everything that was affected by the temporary AWS maintenance is back up and running again except for the services AWS Config, Redshift, and Connect. The reasoning as to their continued maintenance was said to be because these services in particular have a backlog of messages to sort through since they went down. Amazon will be sharing a "detailed AWS post-event summary" in the coming hours.

Amazon was shut down for a while but came back on Monday, 6 pm EST. There are multiple sources that state this, and a new article talking about the DNS error that caused the outage. aws outage: What caused AWS outage? Amazon says it identified 'potential reason' for global internet disruption. Check full list of services affected - The Economic Times In this article it backs up the statement that CNN put out. Amazon says a DNS error caused the AWS outage. What does that mean? This one explains what went wrong and backs up the statement of it coming back on.

It is safe to say they are back on and functional. Another way to check is to open the apps that were affected by this issue.
