Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth addressed hundreds of generals and admirals Tuesday morning, saying that the country's armed forces will "restore a ruthless, dispassionate, and common-sense application of standards." That includes changing expectations about physical fitness and grooming. Anyone not on board, he added, "should do the honorable thing and resign."

According to a transcript of his remarks published by the former Department of Defense, Hegseth did indeed describe rigorous standards that he wants the US military to follow. He calls for the setting of standards for grooming and training that "must be uniform, gender neutral, and high." He singles out "beardos" and the "fat or unfit or undertrained".

Outlets like Fox News and the AP have also reported on this.
