This appears to be true. According to Steam's historical data for the game, over 530K Steam users played Hollowknight: Silksong at its peak on its release day (Sep 4).

It's also true that Team Cherry, the development team behind the game, has only 3 core members, according to the team's website

This claim about player numbers in popular game Hollow Knight: Silksong appears to be true! According to this article https://www.pcgamer.com/games/action/silksong-already-has-the-18th-highest-all-time-peak-player-count-in-steam-history-as-it-draws-over-500-000-players-in-its-first-4-hours/  written the day of the games release, September 4th 2025, Silksong gained over 500,000 players in the first few hours after release, crashed steam servers, and made it to 18th place on steams list of peak game player counts. This information can also be found on the games steam charts; https://steamdb.info/app/1030300/charts/#max where on September 4th it shows the players number on the graph as 535,213 players and peaking at 587,150 players on September 6th.

Additionally, I found the statement that only 3 people and a few extra contractors to also be true! When visiting the official Silksong website: https://hollowknightsilksong.com it states that “Hollow Knight: Silksong is being developed by Team Cherry in Adelaide, South Australia. We're a team of 3 people who, alongside making the game, are responsible for building these websites, cutting those game trailers, and much more.” The three developers included in team Cherry are Ari Gibson, William Pellen, and Jack Vine.
