An ex-Big Brother star, Andrew Tate claims that "people defend depression. They get angry when I say this because they need this bull**** to justify their own failures. By admitting I'm right, they need to work hard to make themselves happy. To avoid the work, they argue with me and pretend depression is a thing."

By comparing an authentic source of health news (Medical News Today) with an opinion expressed by a celebrity without scientific basis, it is evident that the claim of the non-existence of depression is not credible. This is because the article by Medical News Today is based on medical research, expert views, etc., whereas Tate's claim is based on an anecdotal argument.

This claim is false, considering the initial post has gotten their evidence from a quote via Andrew Tate, making his "quote" an opinion. From the source samhsa.gov which goes into detail on how depression is a disorder of the brain and is a serious mental illness. Additionally, the source goes into detail on treatment for depression, symptoms of depression and causes of depression. Which in conclusion shows depression is very real and is a serious mental health problem.

In the article, Andrew Tate states, "Depression isn't real. You feel sad, you move on. You will always be depressed if your life is depressing. Change it,". But there is plenty of research and evidence to prove this claim false. Depression is a very real and common medical illness.

1) Depression definition and DSM‑5 criteria (PubMed): This article summarizes how depression is a mood disorder with symptoms that affect a persons daily functioning.

2) https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2025/10/251010091559.htm: In this study scientiists looked at brain tisues from people who had depression and found that certian brain cells behave differently and have altered gene activity showing that depression is real and not just "feeling sad".
