After checking official data and reliable news, I found that the claim “Grocery prices in the United States have gone down” is false. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and the USDA, grocery prices are still higher than last year. The inflation rate has slowed, which means prices are rising more slowly, but they have not actually decreased. Reports from PBS NewsHour and Reuters confirm that although inflation is cooling, the overall cost of food in the U.S. remains above pre-pandemic levels.

Some sources may have made the claim because a few specific food categories, such as eggs and vegetables, temporarily dropped in price. However, this does not represent the entire grocery market. These headlines can be misleading because they give the impression that all grocery prices are going down, which is not true.

After comparing several reports, I found no evidence from official agencies or economists supporting the idea that grocery prices have fallen overall. Therefore, this statement is false, food prices remain high, and most American families are still paying more than they did a year ago.
